Perle (Moss a.k.a Seed) Stitch worked in the Round:

Round 3: Purl on top of Knit & Knit on top of Purl

Round 4: Work stitches as they appear.

Repeat these 4 rounds.

Perle (Moss a.k.a Seed) Stitch worked Back and Forth:

Row 1: [K2, P2]

Row 2: Knit on top of Knit & Purl on top of Purl - basically work stitches as they appear.

[Knit 2 rounds in stockinette, Purl 1 round] repeat as many times as directed.

Then work 2 rounds in stockinette.

NOTE: If there are not enough stitches for a full or half diagram/pattern work the stitches in stockinette. The pattern is supposed to appear random.

Repeat till your Back measures: (19 1/2”) 20” (21”) 21 1/2” (22 1/2”).

Step 11:

[1 Edge Stitch, work Perle Stitch (back and forth version), 1 Edge Stitch] and at same time

bind off on each side every other row the following number of stitches for the 2 shoulders:

(6, 7, 7) 7, 7, 7 (7, 8, 8) 8, 8, 8 (8, 8,9) sts.

Note: I would place them on a holder or waste yarn and then use the kitchener stitch to graft the front and back shoulder together, or work the 3 needle bind off as that would make for the strongest shoulder seam.

Step 12:

Place the remaining (30) 32 (32) 34 (34) sts on a holder for collar.

FRONT:

Step 1:

Cast on: (78) 82 (90) 94 (98) sts with 1 strand of each of the 2 yarns on US Size 10 circular needles.

Step 2:

WORK FRONT AS BACK TILL YOUR FRONT MEASURES: (18”) 19” (20”) 20 1/2” (21”).

Approx. middle of Step 10 from the back instructions.

Step 3:

Place the center (14) 16 (16) 18 (18) sts on a holder for collar. Each side is work separately.

[1 Edge Stitch, work (32) 33 (37) 38 (40) sts,  place (14) 16 (16) 18 (18) sts on a holder for collar, work (32) 33 (37) 38 (40) sts, 1 Edge Stitch].

Step 4:

Work each side separately, plus on every other row place the following stitches towards the neck side on a holder: 3, 2, 2, 1 sts.

At the same time when your front measures: (19 1/2”) 20” (21”) 21 1/2” (22 1/2”)

[1 Edge Stitch, work Perle Stitch (back and forth version), and at same time  bind off on every other row the following stitches for shoulders: (6, 7, 7) 7, 7, 7 (7, 8, 8) 8, 8, 8 (8, 8,9) sts.

Work the mirror copy for the other side of the neck.

Remember you are only working the Edge Stitch on the sleeve side, NOT on the neck side.

SLEEVES (Make 2)

Step 1:

Cast on (36) 36 (40) 40 (44) sts with 1 strand of each of the 2 yarns held together on US Size 10 Double Pointed Knitting Needles.

NOTE: Here is a little trick by my friend Tara Robinson: I like to secure my join by swapping the last cast on stitch with the first.

As you are about to join your needles together, pass the first stitch on your left needle onto the right.

Then, pass the first stitch on your needle over this stitch plus onto the left needle.

Place marker here, in-between these newly swapped stitches. This is the beginning of your round.

Step 2:

Work 3” rib

[K2, P2] (9) 9 (10) 10 (11) times, PM.

Repeat till your sleeve measures: 3”.

Step 3:

Knit one round and at the same time decrease stitches evenly by 4 sts.

(32) 32 (36) 36 (40) sts remains.

Step 4:

Work Perle Stitch (the round version) till your sleeve measures 5”.

Step 5:

Increase 1 stitch on each side of marker.

NOTE: No specific instructions given on how to work the increases. You could for example work a left and a right slanted increase with 1 stitch between. [K1, M1L, K till end, M1R] PM. You are the boss.

After this first Increase. Increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker every:

(1 1/2”) 1 1/4” (1 1/2”) 1 1/4” (1 1/2”).

Total increases (8) 9 (8) 9 (8) times. (48) 50 (52) 54 (56) sts.

Step 6:

At the same time as you are working the Increases:

Work 20 sts from diagram, the rest of the sts in Ridge Stripe till your sleeve measures 6 1/2”.

Step 7:

Work Ridge Stripe till 20 sts remains, work 20 sts from diagram till sleeve measures 9 1/2”.

Step 8:

Work Perle Stitch (the round version) till your sleeve measures 12 1/2”

Step 9:

Work 28 sts from diagram, the rest of the sts in Ridge Stripe till your sleeve measures 14 1/2”.

Step 10:

Work Ridge Stripe till 28 sts remains, work 28 sts from diagram till your sleeve measures 17”.

Step 11:

Work Perle Stitch (the round version) till your sleeve measures 18”

Step 12:

Loosely bind off.

SHOULDERS: Work the shoulder stitches together using your preferred method.

SLEEVES: Sew the sleeves onto the sweater.

BODY: Sew the side seams together.

COLLAR:

Step 1:

Pick up the neck stitches from the neck holder (30) 32 (32) 34 (34) sts, plus increase these stitches evenly by 4 stitches, till you have (34) 36 (36) 38 (38),

pick up 17 sts from each side*, plus add the stitches from the front holder (14) 16 (16) 18 (18), plus increase these stitches evenly by 2 sts, till you have (16) 18 (18) 20 (20)

Total sts for collar: (84) 88 (88) 92 (92)

NOTE: * if you placed the 3, 2, 2, 1 sts on each side on a holder you will only need to pick up 9 sts from each side

Step 2:

Place these (84) 88 (88) 92 (92) on US Size 10 Circular Knitting needle and work

rib:  [K2,P2] till your collar measures 2 1/2”, loosely bind off in pattern.

Step 3:

Fold the collar towards the wrong side (inside of the sweater) and stitch it loosely together on the wrong side (inside of the sweater) to make a double knit collar.

Finally hem in all ends.
