Pattern - Hat - Onion Dome Cable - Bulky Hat 2201

Inspired by a wooden box I got as a kid with colorful Onion Domes burned onto the top of the lid. I worked this pattern in Aran weight yarns years ago. Looking at the box I decided to update it for Bulky yarns for a super toasty winter hat, where you can place the cables over your ears for that extra warmth.

The Pattern is written with 3 different versions: "Tall", "Average", and "Brim". Any Bulky weight yarn will work as long as you get the gauge.

2 skeins Bulky or 3 skeins is enough for 2 hats.

I used MWP - Bulky for the hats pictured, Bartlett Bulky works too.

Finished size: 23-24" around head &

16" bottom ear/ear over crown of head for Version 1 - Tall

15" bottom ear/ear over crown of head for Version 2 - Average

14 1/2 bottom ear/ear over crown of head for Version 3 - Brim

2 1/2 - 2 3/4 sts/1" on size 11 (8mm) needles.

If you want your hat larger around your head, add 2 stitches, that'll add a little under an inch. Blue hat had the extra 2 stitches. Green was pattern as written.

You need: US Size 7 (4.5 mm) Circular Knitting Needles - 16" length, US Size 11 (8mm) Circular Knitting Needles - 16" length, and  US Size 11 (8mm) DP Knitting Needles.
