  • $5.00

This Pattern is written for any of our Fine Sport - Fingering weight yarns.

US Size 1.5 (2.5 mm)  Circular Needles - 16" length, and  24" length, plus Double Pointed Needles 6" length for the decreases or flyers.

Marker.

I used 5 different colors of my leftovers in my Yak/Silk/Merino yarn and some of my Fine Merino/Cashmere in Natural for the tiny Peace Symbol and Feather.

Head Size: 21-22 1/2” circumference (around head), and 15” from bottom of ear over crown of head to bottom of other ear.

For a taller version increase rounds from the Border chart 1. Shorter version decrease rounds.

For a smaller version (around head) use smaller needles. Larger version use larger needles.

This hue (kep/hat/cap)“hugs” your head comfortably.

Gauge in pattern BEFORE wash on US size 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles:  8.25 sts/1” & 10 rounds/1”.

Gauge in pattern AFTER wash on US size 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles:  8 sts/1” & 8.5 rounds/1”.

Freds Hue*

*Freds Hue is Danish for Peace Kep, Cap or Hat.

Birds being a peace symbol, I choose the feather, and the feathery top.

Plus a tiny Peace Symbol and the Golden Bird after ribbed edge.

This hat is a guide - you can eliminate any of the elements or work the hue* with less colors.

The Shetland Keps provided the inspiration for this “HUE”, love playing with colors.

This is a win win combination, colors, using up my leftovers in the yak/silk/merino,

and some natural Cashmere/Merino creating a super soft warm hat.

Figured there was room for a Scandinavian version, based on my Nordic heritage.

These huer* are great for using up all those leftovers.

You could easily work Chart 2 with all peace symbols or all birds.

Plus Chart 2 could be worked with 2 strands instead of 3. You are the boss.

Do not hesitate to play with your leftover colors to create your own version.

Remember patterns are only suggestions and not carved in rock.

Happy Knitting!
